I can’t help but giggle every time my professor says “Duty” in Torts. Not good. Not good at all. Waiting for Awkward Law School Moment: III when he asks me “Whats so funny?”
Cedar Lake is #1
Sorry Lake of the Isles, the peaceful respite for joggers. Sorry Lake Calhoun, the self-proclaimed “social butterfly”. Sorry Lake Harriet with your fancy band shell. Today, it became official… Cedar Lake has my heart.
Joe convinced me to go outside even though I already consider the weather outside to be hostile. We biked down to Cedar Lake which has a rugged trail around most...
We found a funny fairy/hobbit/insert-the-mythical-creature-of-your-choice-here house on the trail around Cedar lake. I love continuing to find amazing little spots in this (still very) new city!

Update!
Priority #1. I have new photographic evidence that I have made friends in Minneapolis. I have spent the past couple of weeks regretting that I didn’t take pictures of anyone the night we had people over, because as we’ve all learned—> if pictures of it aren’t on the internet, then it didn’t happen. On Tuesday several...
There are always two choices. Two paths to take. One is easy. And its only...

Midterm grades are back...
And I am VERY happy. That is all.
chili win
So tonight I used this recipe to make 5-way Cincinnati chili for dinner! This is the first time I’ve ever cooked chili, and it was a HUGE SUCCESS. I’m talking quadruple clean plate club (we each got seconds!) I will definitely use this recipe again.
The 5 ways, as invented by Skyline Chili are: 1) Chili 2) With cheese 3) and onions 4) on spaghetti 5) with kidney beans.
freaking...
Tonight I will be trying my hand at 5-way Cincinnati Chili. I will keep you posted on the results. Needless to say, its a chilly (ha), rainy, gloomy, winter-is-coming, going back to school kind of day…

back in minneapolis
Thank you South Carolina for welcoming me back with open arms and warmth and love. It was so invigorating and renewing to be surrounded by so many friends and family for an entire week! I am now sitting by a fireside (albiet at a Caribou Coffee) studying, and the warm-fuzzies I feel are only partially from the fire. I feel so loved and so blessed. See all of you very soon, whether at Rachel and...
charleston for the weekend
I write from my mom’s couch in Columbia where I am happily basking in the peaceful knowledge that I’m HOME, while we listen to our favorite band (crowfield, obvi) and catch up.
To briefly touch on my travels, I ended up stuck in Memphis all day and over night on Friday and for most of the day on Saturday after an unceremoniously cancelled flight (was supposed to arrive in SC late...
No matter how bad I feel for myself with a three hour delay on top of a three...
– Me, just now
Thusly Humbled.
Today was one of those days! Not a bad day, just a day where you have to consciously monitor your reactions to things that are outside of your control.
I think the only thing I dislike about law school so far is when people react/comment/hypothesize when they haven’t been paying attention. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for a good tangent every now and then. I also have learned to love...

Rabbi Sim Glaser @ the basilica
So last nights “talk” from Rabbi Sim Glaser was on the covenant tradition in the Jewish faith. Not only was he dynamic speaker, he also brought up several questions which can inspire people of any faith background. He did his fair share of making fun of Catholics, which was also fun. I’ll start with two of his jokes, so you can understand why he refers to himself as “the...
I am really excited for tonight… you may not know that I am participating in RCIA at the Basilica in downtown Minneapolis. Basically, RCIA is grown-up Catholic school. This week we have a special guest speaker, Rabbi Sim Glaser, who will be discussing Hebrew Scriptures and the Importance of Covenant & Tradition. I am especially excited for this meeting because he supposed to be a very...

Awkward law school moment: II
So today, I ran into my Torts professor at the foot of a staircase. Just the two of us were on the staircase, so I had no choice but to talk to him. He was carrying a briefcase. I looked at it and said “Man, with that midterm this afternoon I am feeling tempted to trespass your chattels.*” We exchanged an awkward silence, and I pointed to his...
Thanks for this universe! I need every bit of encouragement I can get during midterms. Although, not to jinx it but I feel like I just aced my Torts midterm. Only one left, and then… FALL BREAK!
Also, stay tuned for another installment of “Awkward Law School Moments”

I see you coming Monday!
At the risk of revealing just how boring my life is as a result of school…I am SO excited to tell you that I am updating this from home because today we (finally) got internet and cable!!! Don’t worry, it hasn’t taken away (too much) from my mid-term studies, although we did get to catch up on The Office today while gorging on Pizza Hut. It felt better than it should have, I know...
Two mid-terms down!
Yesterday morning I took my Contracts midterm. After a complicated question involving whether or not contracts had been formed and were enforceable in various situations, my brain felt like it had been wrung out by the end of the hour and fifteen minutes! However, I am happy to say that I was typing my conclusion sentence when “time” was called, so I feel pretty solid about my...
Treats from Peggy!
Our friend Peggy (Joe’s mom’s friend from college) and her sweet husband Kirk and their son Kyle all 3 helped us move our furniture in on our first night in Minneapolis. They saved us hundreds of trips up and down the narrow stairs and the warmth of their help made us feel welcome immediately in this new city.
We’ve enjoyed several meals with them in the meantime, and one...
Curious Guardian Angel...
A man just approached me while I was eating lunch at Caribou by the law school. He walked up to me and said, “Are you a lawyer?” I responded that it was funny he should ask, as I am a law student. He looked at me and said “I can tell without a doubt. I looked at you and thought she is a lawyer. And when you are one, you will be great. You were made for this.” I politely...
Happy Birthday Lynn Giant!
Happy Birthday to one of the coolest ladies I’ve ever met! Lynn is generous, smart, funny, silly, intuitive, caring, helpful, and most importantly: a fantastic cook! In addition, she gets to take 1/2 of the credit for raising two of my favorite people in the world. Enjoy your day!
New GYM!
So I finally bit the bullet and enrolled at the YWCA here in town. There are about 100 reasons I chose it over other gyms in town 1)being cost 2)being all the classes 3)being there are three locations, all very convenient.
Moving on…took my first group fitness class on Sunday: Ballet Barre. Let me sum it up to say— it took me THREE attempts to get out of bed this morning.
